Welcome to WAVE Domestic Abuse Centre

W.A.V.E's mission is to provide safe shelter and support services for women and children who have been subjected to domestic abuse. W.A.V.E Domestic Abuse Centre is a vital resource providing confidential assistance including emergency safety services such as refuge and 24 hour crisis helplines. But you don't have to stay in the refuge to get help from the centre. W.A.V.E. provides a full range of non-refuge related services.
The staff on all our projects have accurate information about domestic abuse and are experienced in providing assistance. They understand the family court and social security systems and are familiar with other community resources that might be useful to you.

Domestic abuse is any incident of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between adults who are or have been in a relationship together, or between family members, regardless of gender or sexuality.
Whatever form it takes, domestic abuse is rarely a one-off incident. More usually it's a pattern of abusive and controlling behaviour through which the abuser seeks power over their victim.
Domestic abuse occurs across society, regardless of age, gender, race, sexuality, wealth and geography. The figures show, however, that it consists mainly of abuse by men against women.
Victims of domestic abuse suffer on many levels - health, housing, education - and lose the freedom to live their lives how they want, and without fear. We aim to support victims of domestic abuse with a range of measures
