Facts & figures

Although domestic abuse is chronically under reported, research estimates it:

  • accounts for 16% of all violent crime 
  • will affect 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men in their lifetime
  • 77% of victims of domestic abuse are women
  • has more repeat victims than any other crime (on average there will have been 35 assaults before a victim calls the police)
  • on average, two women are killed every week by a current or former male partner
  • one incident of domestic abuse is reported to the police every minute

The Council for Voluntary Service is a local project working with all Voluntary and Community groups within the Wigan Borough. The work of voluntary groups is an integral partof life in the Community and must be assisted and supported. Wigan & Leigh CVS aims to provide an invaluable service to Voluntary groups by offering up-to-date information, advice and training to its members

 

WIGAN FAMILY WELFARE Wigan Churches Association for Family Welfare has been helping families in need for over 46 years. organisation was established in 1958, at the time concentrating on supporting young people with pregnancy related issues.Since then it has expanded over the years, identifying and meeting the needs of families and children. It exists now to provide a service through counselling, advocacy and community development as a free, independant and confidential service to the people of the Wigan Borough.
